Please join 156 Studio Projects in a screening of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge, the fourth in a series of monthly screenings of influential queer films of cult notoriety. Screened in the gallery space of 156 Augusta, this series will spotlight queer films of controversial and or/idiosyncratic quality. Each film will be followed by a discussion of its relationship, relevance and impact on LGBTQ+ culture.

Content Warning: violence and gore

The second installment in the Nightmare on Elm Street series, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge tells the story of Jesse Walsh, a teenager who begins to have recurring nightmares of Freddy Krueger, a murderous paranormal entity, after moving into the home of a character from the film’s predecessor. The film has become a cult hit because of its heavy homoerotic subtext and subsequent aftermath for Jesse Patton, the actor who played Jesse Walsh, who in later years would come out as openly gay.

ABOUT THE CHROMAKEY LAVENDER: regarding the two words in the title – chromakey: the background colour used in screen based editing to superimpose an augmented image or video by mapping it to a single uncommon colour. Lavender: in reference to lavender linguistics, a concept developed to bracket the ever evolving, ever intriguing expressive patterns of queer culture. Together, Chromakey Lavender refers to the unseen forces percolating in the background of film culture upon which queer lifeways are presented in order to represent a diverse and subversive community.

Chromakey Lavender is a series co curated by Sami Alwani and Philip Ocampo
